How a bathroom runs

Six stages, same order every time

01

Come and look

Measured up, talked through, then a written price broken down by the work.

02

Strip out

Old suite and tiling out and on the van. Nothing left in a pile on the landing.

03

First fix

Supplies and wastes re-run, falls set, valves positioned, trays bedded, everything pressure tested.

04

Board and tile

Tile backer where needed, then tiling — ours or your own tiler’s.

05

Second fix

Suite, brassware, screens and mirrors fitted, wastes connected, the lot re-checked.

06

Seal and hand over

Siliconed, cleaned down, rubbish gone and a walk round the controls.

Worth knowing first

The supply decides what the bathroom can be

People pick a suite, then find out the system won’t run it. Backwards, and easily avoided by looking at the hot water first.

  • Big showers need pressureA drencher head on a gravity-fed tank will trickle. Worth knowing before you buy one.
  • Two bathrooms need a cylinderOr one of them will always lose. A combi cannot be in two places at once.
  • Old pipework restricts flowNarrow, furred-up runs strangle everything downstream of them.
  • We check before you buyFlow and pressure measured at quoting stage, so the spec matches what the house can actually deliver.

FAQs

Bathroom questions

How long does a bathroom take?

One to two and a half weeks for most, depending on size and how much pipework gets renewed. In the older houses here it’s often more than people expect because the existing pipework is worth replacing while the walls are open.

Can you put a second bathroom in?

Frequently, and in a three storey house it’s one of the best things you can do to it. The questions are where the soil stack runs, whether the waste can keep its fall, and whether the hot water system can actually feed two bathrooms at once — which is often the real answer.

Will a new bathroom work on my old heating system?

It might not, and it’s worth asking before you buy a suite. A powerful shower on a tired gravity system will be a disappointment. We look at supply and pressure at quoting stage rather than discovering it on fitting day.

Can I use my own tiler?

Yes. First fix from us, tiling from them, then back for second fix. We’ll coordinate the dates directly so nobody is stood waiting.

Do you supply the suite?

Either way. One price for everything, or you buy the suite and we fit it. Tell us which when you ring.

Will a wet room leak?

Not if it’s tanked and the falls are right. That is the job — a properly formed fall to the drain, tanking up the walls, water tested before tiling.

Do you do rental property bathrooms?

Yes. Hard wearing, quick to turn round and specced with a landlord’s eye. Say it’s a rental when you ring.
